Water Conservation
Protecting and preserving its water resources is always a top priority for the City of Lincoln City. To help address this priority, The City of Lincoln City and other Cities in Lincoln County formed the Mid-Coast Water Conservation Consortium.
The Consortium enables the water providers to pool resources and share knowledge to accomplish more water conservation activities than could be done individually, benefiting all communities involved.

Conserving Water Tips
Keep in mind that conserving water through the year can save you money and help increase the life of the City’s Water Treatment Plant. Remember, Even a slow drip adds up! Fixing leaky faucets, pipes, and toilets could save hundreds of gallons. Check out these videos to learn how to detect and fix a toilet leak.
Background Information
Water use spikes in the summer, due in part to the irrigation water used to keep lawns and gardens green, as well as the influx of visitors. This increase in demand at a time when streams are running low challenges communities throughout the region.
Careful water management and conservation benefits residents, businesses, visitors, and fish and wildlife.

What You Can Do to Help
Outdoor water use is a major contributor to water demand in the summer, so it’s a great place to start conserving. Here are some simple tips to get you started:
-
Check for leaks. Fix dripping faucet connections, broken sprinkler heads, and leaky hoses. Even a slow drip will waste a lot of water over the course of the summer.
-
Know when to water. Watering in the early morning reduces the amount of water lost to evaporation. Avoid watering when it is windy, or if the soil is still moist from the last watering.
-
Keep it low. Drip irrigation and soaker hoses are efficient ways to send water right where it’s needed. If you use sprinklers, make sure they don’t spray driveways, decks, or fences.
Indoor water conservation helps, too!
-
Be efficient. High-efficiency shower-heads and faucet aerators are inexpensive ways to reduce water use.
-
Save at the sink. When washing dishes or brushing your teeth, minimize the time the faucet is running.
-
Keep it quick. The shorter your shower, the more water you save.
