Beach Mobility Program
Lincoln City's Beach Mobility program provides independent mobility and access to local beaches for people with all abilities. It will allow for both children and adults with mobility issues to enjoy the beach with three (e) beach wheelchairs at SW 51st St. and Mobi-mats at four (4) beach access locations.
Enjoy all the beauty and fun the beaches have to offer. The City provides access to the beach wheelchairs free of charge.
Mobi-Mats
Mobi-mats are utilized in Lincoln City from May 10th to Labor Day weather permitting. More information can be found on our Mobi-Mats webpage.
Beach Wheelchair
Beach wheelchairs allow people with limited mobility to travel over sand, shells, and rocks to visit our beautiful Taft Beach and Siletz Bay.
The Lincoln City beach wheelchairs are stored in a locked blue storage container at the beach access on the west end of SW 51st Street, by the covered picnic shelter.
Beach wheelchairs are to be used at this beach access only.
The chairs are available for check out at no charge, seven (7) days a week from 8am-4pm October through April and 8am-7pm May through September. Rentals are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. In the event of extreme weather warnings, the wheelchairs are not available to checkout. Currently, our beach wheelchairs do not have an advance reservation system in place. It offers an unlock code for the day of use, which may be obtained after 8am on the chosen day.
A credit card is needed to create an account for reserving the beach wheelchair. A $20.00 charge will be made if a rental use is not ended by 8:00pm on the day of use. If there is damage to the chair or locker, there will be additional charges. If you do not have a credit card, reservations can be made on the day of use: Monday - Friday between 10:00am and 2:00pm by calling 541-994-2131.
To use the beach wheelchair, download either the Android or Apple device app below:
On the date of use, after 8am, create a reservation. If a chair is available, a code will be sent to you. Activate the code when next to the locker to access it.
After downloading the Movatic app, the program will only allow a rental to go through, if the chair is available. If the chair is currently checked-out, the app will not allow you to proceed with the process and the "Select Bike Locker" button will be greyed out. Please try later in the day to see if the chair has been returned and is available.
The locker the beach wheelchair is stored in is referred to as a “bike locker.”
The app will ask you to select Locker #1, #2, or #3– this is a no charge rental. Please note the weight capacity of the chair in locker #1 is 250 pounds. Weight capacity of the chairs in locker #2 is 350 pounds.
Be sure to finish your rental by selecting "End Rental". This completes your transaction and makes the chair available for the next person. Return the chair before closing time. Your code will expire and restrict the ability to reopen the locker to return the chair.
If you need further assistance with reservations, please contact The Community Center front desk, at 541-994-2131.
“Our family found out about your wheelchair program and it changed our whole trip. When we had my 98 year-old grandmother down on the beach and she could feel the ocean air and spray coming up off the waves, she had tears coming down her cheeks and tearfully said that she never thought she'd get down to the ocean again. It was a special moment I won't ever forget and I want to thank you for it.” - Wesley
“My Mom used a beach wheelchair. It was a highlight of our vacation. The joy that it brought my Mom is priceless. This brought laughter and smiles for her and my family.” -Maureen Gavin
ADA Access
Lincoln City Parks and Recreation’s vision and mission include providing access to their Parks, Open Spaces, and Community Center for all. Patrons are encouraged to request accommodations and LCP&R is committed to accommodating any person needing accessibility.
Recently, LCP&R built a new ADA-accessible playground at Regatta Park and an accessible trail at the new Nesika Park, laid with engineered wood chips. The swimming pool has a lift to help patrons enter and exit the water, and new ADA-accessible doors have been installed. Currently, Spring Lake Open Space and the Head-to-Bay trail have some paved surfaces. There are also paved ramps with flat access at the following beach accesses: NW 40th, NW 15th, and SW 51st. As outlined in their 2016 Parks and Recreation System Plan, LCP&R continues working towards their goal of providing more accessibility in their existing and new Parks, Open Spaces, Center facilities, and programs.
