12.14.2024 SCDP Playground Opening & Ribbon Cutting

The new Schooner Creek Discovery Park is located at 4815 SE 51st Street, Lincoln City, OR 97367.

As of Summer 2024, we are in Phase 1 of the 3 Phased Park Project. Phase 1 construction broke ground on June 20th, with a well-attended Groundbreaking Celebration. Phase 1 is expected to complete by the end of Fall 2024, with the 1st new inclusive and accessible playground on the Oregon Coast being opened to the public. What is an Inclusive Playground vs an Accessible Playground? The development and construction of the new Schooner Creek Discovery Park is stated as the #1 goal of the 2016 Lincoln City Parks System Plan, and will address a recreation gap in the southern part in the City.

In December 2020, Lincoln City was able to purchase the land from LCSD.

Thank you to the following for the current funding in place for start of construction:

  • $1 million from State Bill 5202 – Rep. Gomberg and Senator Anderson
  • $1.75 million grant funding – Oregon Parks and Rec Dept
  • $485k donation  - William Byrd Upjohn estate
  • $100k grant funding - Travel Oregon
  • $50k grant funding- Reser Family Foundation
  • $32k for musical instruments - Christmas Cottage of Lincoln City
  • $25k - Ford Family Foundation
  • $15k grant funding -  Lincoln County Community and Economic Development
  • $10k grant funding - Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribution Fund
  • $10k grant funding - Friends of Lincoln City Parks & Recreation and Roundhouse Foundation
  • $2k for 'World's Shortest Trail' - Oregon Parks Foundation
  • $5k grant funding - Friends of LCP&R and Marie Lamfrom
  • $3k grant funding - Pacific Power Foundation
  • Total: $3,487,000.00
