The Community Service Officer (CSO), performs a wide range of duties in support of departmental operations, particularly incidents that do not require a sworn police officer. These incidents include minor traffic crash investigations, minor criminal investigations, parking enforcement, traffic control, found property investigations, evidence collection, and subpoena service duties. In addition, our CSO is involved in community engagement and outreach activities, as well as crime prevention and security at special events and school events. Since the CSO is a non-sworn position, he wears a different uniform, drives a different vehicle, and carries non-lethal weapons such as a Taser, rather than a firearm; these differences allow the public to distinguish the CSO from a sworn police officer.
