School Resource Officer
The Lincoln City Police Department is committed to providing a safe environment for students where they can focus and learn to become productive members of our society. As the safety and security of our city's schools are of paramount importance, the Lincoln City Police Department utilizes a dedicated School Resource Officer (SRO) during the school year. Our School Resource Officer is a specially selected and trained Senior Uniformed Patrol Officer whose primary assignment is within the local schools for the purposes of:
- Enforcement
- Law-related education
- Counseling
- Mentoring students
By working closely with the students, SRO's are able to build a rapport with them and are often more approachable, become a resource for questions and advice and help develop positive attitudes.
The SRO works closely with teachers, parents and school staff. The SRO helps coordinate sharing of responsibilities and crafting solutions to problems other than arrest.
In addition to providing a dedicated police officer to be available in our schools, the SRO also teaches Drug Abuse Resistance and Education (D.A.R.E) classes to Elementary Students within our local school system. The School Resource Officer frequently attends after school activities such as sporting events, dances and other events to help provide safe and rewarding venues for all.
When school is not in session, the SRO augments the Uniformed Patrol Section by performing standard police officer duties.
